While some of you may have made traditional New Year’s Resolutions, I went a slightly different route. Mostly because I can never keep a traditional resolution. Instead I decided to use my new favorite toy {Pinterest!} and make a list of twelve projects I want to get done over the next twelve months.
Project 1: Binders
I have long since drooled over these amazingly organized bloggers on Pinterest with their recipe binders, home management binders, and blog binders. You can find layout ideas, free printables, and even learn what a home management binder is to begin with {for those of you in the dark}. So here is my binder project for 2013.
The Recipe Binder
I want to create a Recipe Binder to brain dump all the family recipes currently laying around my kitchen in drawers and old cookbooks. My mother-in-law is even helping me translate her german recipes into english! My inspiration for my Recipe Binder is coming from one of my favorite Pinterest bloggers to stalk {she has some awesome printables!}, Becky from Clean Mamma.
The Home Management Binder
Another organized binder that I have fallen in complete love is the home management binder. There are a few other names they go by {executive home binder, mom binder, household binder} but I prefer the term home management. My favorite home management binder inspiration comes from A Bowl Full Of Lemons…scratch that, two of my home management binder inspirations come from there. You have to check out How to Make a Home Management Binder and Planner Organization.
The Blog Binder
Then there is my favorite concept..the bloggy binder. For all you bloggers out there, this is the best way {in this bloggy diva’s humble opinion} to keep your blogging organized and on the right path. The best blogging binder tutorial I found on Pinterest is {not so surpringly} by Simply Organized.
Project 2: Learn How To Use My Sewing Machine
I inherited a fabulous sewing machine from my late grandmother that I recently decided was time to learn how to use. I was lucky enough to have a dear friend show me how to clean, thread, and use the fancy foot pedal, so I am ready to get started on a few simply sewing projects.
Project 3: Scrapbooking & Smash-booking

I have been collecting various scrapbooking tools and paper for the past few years and instead of letting it collect dust, I am going to use the great scrapbooking and smash-booking inspiration pins and finally make a scrapbook or twelve. Heck, I need to do something with all the pictures I have! Why let them sit in my external hard drive?
Project 4: My Makeup Vanity
I’m a girl that likes her cosmetics, but right now all my makeup is shoved into two medicine cabinets and all of my hair tools and accessories are under the sink. It can be complete chaos in the morning, and this makes it time consuming to get ready. I was on Pinterest one day and saw this amazing makeup table…
…and then found this one….
I am keeping an eye on Craigslist now to see if I can find a nice Ikea table like the ones above, or maybe something really special and vintage. By the end of 2013 I will have my very own vanity table, and some really great makeup organization!
Project 5: Pillar Shelves
I have these two pillars in the living room that are basically dead space. It creates an awkward flow from the front door through the rest of the room, and then to the kitchen or garage. I debated for the longest time whether or not to just eliminate them all-to-gether since they are not load bearing, until Pinterest gave me a better idea.

You see all that dead space? The whole area needs a face lift and a way to utilize the space more efficiently. I have three kids, I need more storage space. Check out my Pinterest inspiration, I think my problem has been solved!
Project 6: The Laundry “Room”
Our laundry room is a simple closet right off the kitchen, and while I get a little jealous of those of you who have these big, beautiful utility rooms, I kinda like my small house. I can watch the kids in the den while cooking dinner and folding laundry…all from the same room. Having a laundry closet instead of a larger utility room does have it’s disadvantages…one being storage. In a house with three small kids and animals, and us adults, well that is a lot of cleaning supplies and a lot of laundry. Spending so much time looking at my little laundry closet I would like it to be a bit prettier as well. This is what I am shooting for {sorry I didn’t have time to take a pic of my laundry closet, I will post one later though}!
Now I am not a big fan of yellow, but you get the idea…bright, organized and functional. I love the shelf right over the washer and dryer so that nothing falls behind…that is a big problem for me here. The color scheme I am going with is greens and blues. Relaxing and fun!
Project 7: Pantry Makeover
Like my laundry room, my pantry is small. It started as a tall cabinet in the kitchen, and migrated into the coat closet that was nothing more than a glorified storage dump. Now, it is a pantry dump. It needs organized and beautified. Pinterest is absolutely full of great pantry organizations, but this one is my favorite.
Don’t you just love the pretty wallpaper in the background? Oh and those super cute baskets and labels! Swoon! I am so excited to start my pantry makeover.
Project 8: Outdated Kitchen
Our home was built in 1984 {the year I was born!} and had not been updated in any way, shape, or form until we moved in. The kitchen is very typical ranch style 80′s. Bland pressed wood cabinets, bland faux butcher block wood counter tops, bland vinyl flooding. Ugh. The 80′s. I don’t want to dump a ton of money into a kitchen remodel, but the kitchen is usually the most expensive to redo. Then I found this…
If my before and after is even half this pretty I will say it is a success. My kitchen can get a bit dark, so I want to lighten things up by going the route Kim from The Money Pit went….paint the wood cabinets white! I am so excited for this project I can hardly stand it.
Project 9: Black Interior Doors
I wanted to find a way to add some warmth while looking for a way to update our new house. Solution via Pinterest: Paint all the interior doors black while leaving the trim white. LOVE it!
I love the neutral colors in this as well. Is this not warm, inviting, and updated? My only concern is how this would look in my house with my dark brown carpets…’cause right now I am not in a position to rip out carpets.
Project 10: A Chicken Coop {And A Few Chickens}
Recently we discovered that we can have up to 20 chickens and a chicken coop where we live in the “city” of Tucson. I say “city” because we technically live in a small suburb town, but have the big city address….and the big city taxes ugh. Digressing..we have a big back yard for our area, not huge by agricultural standpoints, but big enough. So I found some chicken coops on Pinterest that look like something I can totally dig.
How elegant and functional would this be? While I would hope ours turns out this lovely, I would be happy with happy chickens producing happy little eggs. My kids are can hardly wait for us to take on this venture.
Project 11: Hall Bathroom
Our hall bathroom {the one guests and the kids use} could use a facelift. Like the kitchen, it screams 1980′s. Building standard large ugly mirror, vinyl flooring, and drab wood cabinets. Again, I will post a picture before I start. For right now, look at the inspiration for our remodel that we found on Pinterest.
So pretty. I think my kids would love the green. I like the update to the mirror and the extra storage the shelves provide. Our bathroom has the ugly builder track lighting, and the simple update there would be a big upgrade on asthetics.
Project 12: Shape Up & Get Healthy
Since popping out three kids, my health has gone down the tubes. Cancer, diabetes, and anxiety have overwhelmed me and now not only am I not happy with my body {yes, I know how some people are going to react at THAT statement} but my body is not happy with me. This year, I plan on getting back into shape, loosing weight, and getting my health back under control. Every month I will be holding myself accountable to you, my readers. So look forward to those updates!

I LOVE this plan…and I LOVE Pinterest! Can’t wait to see how all your projects come out! Good Luck!
What a fantastic idea. I keep pinning away but really have only used a couple of my pins. This would be a great way to make sure I do some of those wonderful things that I have pinned. Good luck!
I love this idea of have 12 goals for the 12 months… some will take longer than a month, some less and it all evens out!
I dont have a steve to help me get stuff done so I might not have 12 lol
I am going to make a list too!
and I Love that on number 11 you can just build on top of the existing mirror… no need to buy two new ones when you have a single large one!
I just finished my list!
I ended up with 10. I dont know how much a of a difference 2 projects will make but I am happy with the 10 LOL
